Hola! Hope you're smiling :)
I love gifts – giving mostly. It’s such joy to present someone with a little something that is exciting. I don’t know who I will meet on my travels and but I am sure I will meet the best of people. It could be possible that I don’t see them ever again or it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship – whatever it be, I wish to honour the serendipity and thank these people who come my way with a memento.
And so, I picked up gifts yesterday for people I don’t know, have never met and have no clue who they will be! It’s exciting. I got Indian handicrafts – the colorful whistles are from Kondapalli – 20 minutes from my hometown in Andhra Pradesh. Kondapalli is known for the toys it makes of wood and natural dye – almost every household in Kondapalli makes toys! And the lovely village is also honored by UNESCO with a geographical identification status. The whistles are super fun.
I also picked up some ‘Bidri’ craft – paper clips and miniature shoes, the shoe can also be used as an ash tray but that’s not why I selected it. I like the shoe for it is a representation of Hyderabad’s Nizami royalty.
And then there are miniature paintings and lots of handmade paper – letterpads, envelopes, notecards. I wish I come across people who enjoy writing. I also have sketchbooks, Tibetan prayer flags, handmade tribal art Ganeshas.
I love how everything (pretty much) is handmade! Hoping each of these items I carry finds a new home.
